What a spreadsheet cannot do
A spreadsheet cannot refuse. It will happily let someone allocate stock that does not exist, book a vehicle twice, mark a deal as qualified with no budget recorded, or overwrite a figure that was signed off last week.
It also cannot tell you who changed what. When the number is wrong, the trail ends at a filename with three versions.

Rules the database enforces
- Stock cannot go negative, and an allocation larger than the stock is refused outright
- A record cannot skip a stage that matters — the gate is enforced, not remembered
- A signed-off period is locked, so a later import cannot silently rewrite it
- Every change carries who did it and when, and the log cannot be edited afterwards
